Γεια σας and welcome to TheBlueEyedGreek.com! I’m Peter Mavrik, a blue eyed Greek with the burning desire share my love of food and culture. This site isn’t just about Greek food, although I will take you on a tour of my own culinary heritage.

I want to focus on the relationship between food and culture. This may sound strange, but I believe that food is culture. Everything you eat, everything you cook, and every bit of food you buy says a lot about you.

Our relationships with food define our relationships with our world. Nothing says more about you than what, how, and with whom you eat. TheBlueEyedGreek.com aims to share my own experiences with food, and hopefully involve a lot of other people along the way.

I have to be honest here. I’m not a formally trained cook. I did grow up in the restaurant business here in Chicago (duh, my father is Greek), so in some ways I was born a foodie. But these days, every video, every cookbook, and every person willing to share a recipe with me are my teachers. The world is full of good cooks, and with any luck, I’ll be introducing you to as many as I can find.
